Cafe’ Chardonnay has been one of my favorites among favorite Palm Beach area restaurants since it opened in 1986. Owners Frank and Gigi Eucalitto have created a casual, sophisticated, elegant space with award-winning cuisine, featuring the freshest
ingredients, sourced locally, and flown-in from the best sources worldwide. The cuisine is a perfect blend of Continental, Italian-American, French, “Floribbean”, and Modern Global, paired with a great wine list offering something for every palate and budget. Chardonnay offers wine flights (sample sized pours of many wines), and the list features “50 bottles under $50.” Join their e-mail list to learn about special features and fresh dishes, During summer months, Cafe’ Chardonnay features a special Prix Fixe 3-course menu every night except Saturday, and every night there is a variety of daily specials. One of my favorite dishes is the Grilled Irish “Sea Whistle” Salmon over al dente French lentils with wilted spinach and a frisee salad drizzled with truffle oil. It is light, healthy, and balanced. The salmon is always done to perfection and is some of the finest salmon I’ve ever enjoyed. Other favorites include Pan Seared Veal Scaloppine with Cremini mushrooms, ricotta gnocchi, oven dried tomatoes, and Amarone, Herb-Crusted Rack of Lamb, cooked to perfection, Roasted Duck a L’Orange with Grand Marnier, Macadamia Crusted Yellowtail Snapper with a tropical fruit salsa, classic Bouillabaisse, and short ribs braised in red wine with roasted root vegetables. Cafe’ Chardonnay features many delectable appetizers such as Blue Point Oysters Rockefeller, Foie Gras, Crab Cake with sweet corn and watermelon salsa, Shrimp and Jumbo Lump Crab Cocktail, Ceviche, Pancetta-Wrapped Diver Scallops over Polenta, and classics done well, such as Brandied Lobster Bisque and French Onion Soup baked with Gruyere. Our most recent visit featured light, delicately breaded and expertly pan sautéed Zucchini Flowers filled with herbed ricotta and mozzarella with heirloom tomato relish (excellent rendition and a great start to a perfect meal), a delicious Kale Salad with grilled peaches and crumbled blue cheese, and seafood specials included local Swordfish with Chatham (MA) mussels and San Marzano tomato over hand cut pasta, as well as local Grouper, served over Lobster Risotto “Carbonara” with peas–an excellent choice! Chef Frank’s specials and combinations of flavors are extraordinary and I am always delighted when I try any of his specials.

Cafe’ Chardonnay features several lovely salads, including a good Caesar, Buffalo Mozzarella Caprese, Oven Roasted Red and Gold Beets over baby greens and arugula with spicy pecans and a sherry vinaigrette, and poached pears with almond crusted goat cheese over mixed greens with a champagne vinaigrette.

Lunch is also a great time to sample Cafe’ Chardonnay (M-F); they feature daily specials and a Prix Fixe option, as well as many luscious lunch salads, including their famous Chardonnay Chicken Salad, composed of Bell & Evans chicken breast tossed with apples and walnuts and fresh fruit and vegetable slaw, the Beef Tenderloin “BLT” Salad, which is grilled filet mignon, iceberg, crumbled bacon, red onion, tomato, and blue cheese dressing, on the lighter side is the Cafe’ Salad with mixed baby greens, strawberries, asparagus, gorgonzola, and spiced pecans with balsamic vinaigrette, and the Soy and Ginger Glazed Organic Irish Salmon with citrus ponzu over baby artisan lettuce, snap peas, napa cabbage, crispy wontons and a carrot-ginger dressing. There are many great sandwiches as well, and a number of the dinner items are available on the lunch menu.
Cafe’ Chardonnay has received numerous awards, including the DIRONA award and the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence. If you haven’t been, what are you waiting for?
