C’est La Vie! Authentic French Patisserie & Cafe’ in Downtown Sarasota, Florida



It’s easy to forget that you’re in Florida and not in France once you set foot inside Sarasota’s beloved Patisserie and Cafe’, C’est La Vie. When owners Christophe and Geraldine Coutelle moved to Sarasota 18 years ago, it was their mission to bring an authentic French bistro experience to America. C’est la Vie opened its doors in 1997 and was one of the first restaurants downtown to offer outdoor seating like many of the established bistros in France. C’est La Vie has been recently named a Fred Bollaci Enterprises Golden Palate Partner™ representing the finest in quality, authenticity, and hands-on, dedicated ownership.


Popular menu items at C’est La Vie include quiche, crepes, croissants and sandwiches made on freshly-baked bread. Most of the recipes are Christophe’s own creation, although some were passed down from parents who ran their own restaurant in Paris when he was a child. Today, C’est La Vie remains a local favorite, featuring a comfortable “Provencale-style” dining room with terra-cotta tile floors and sunny Mediterranean-style decor, as well as popular sidewalk dining, serving breakfast and lunch daily.


C’est La Vie offers authentic fresh baked breads and pastries daily to enjoy in the restaurant with a coffee or glass of wine, or to take home. All pastries are baked in-house ensuring the freshness and quality are second to none. Most patrons who have traveled to France say the experience is almost identical. The restaurant also offers variety of catering services.

Pastry Chef Chef Jérôme Dulas is a native from the Southwest of France near Bordeaux. Realizing his passion for the art of pastries, Jérôme entered cooking school at the young age of 15. Upon graduating in 1999, he then went on to work in bakeries throughout France. In 2000, Jérôme nobly served his country as a pastry chef for the air force general. After his tour of duty was completed, Jérôme decided to venture out of France and landed in the U.S. First stop, at the famous Cafe’ Central in Denver.

His travels then took him to C’est La Vie. Searching more travel. Jérôme found Club Med in 2004 and worked for 7 years as a Pastry chef in numerous Club Med resorts in France, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Turks and Caicos Islands, Sicily, Portugal, and Guadeloupe before returning again to Sarasota and C’est La Vie.
