Le Penguin, a Fred Bollaci Enterprises Preferred Destination in Greenwich, CT is a classic French bistro with a twist, featuring exceptional, fresh, light, and healthy cuisine in a hip, cool environment with professional staff, an outstanding wine list, and full cocktail menu, serving lunch and dinner 7 days a week.
Fred Bollaci looks for destinations that feature the highest quality ingredients, skillfully prepared, with thoughtful owners and chefs who appreciate the trend towards healthier eating and wellness in America– those owners and chefs who go the extra mile to prepare classics with a light touch and to feature gourmet light items on their menus, delivering the highest quality dining experience while maintaining a commitment to health and well-being without sacrificing flavor or enjoyment. Le Penguin gets it! The restaurant aims to deliver local seasonal ingredients with farm-to-table freshness. Begin with a choice of tantalizing appetizers and select wine pairings to compliment delicious fish, chicken and beef entrees. The clean and colorful salmon and navy decor, and cool, upbeat French music allow guests to dine in comfort and style. The name “Le Penguin” reflects the owners’ playful sense of humor and mix of tradition and novelty. The menu tells the story that in France, old-style waiters were called “Penguins” because of their formal dress and mannerisms. The owners have nicknamed the chef “Le Penguin” in the kitchen for their mutual love of being funny and free, like the bird called “the penguin,” a bird that doesn’t fly but is intriguing nonetheless!
The fabled location of 61 Lewis Street, formerly home to the venerable Chef Jean-Louis Gerin has been transformed by new owners Antoine Blech and Anshu Vidyarthi who purchased the location in 2013 and transformed it into Le Penguin, a classic French Bistro – with a twist. With an updated menu featuring French bistro classics with a healthy, light twist, Le Penguin promises to remain a key dining destination in Greenwich and the northeast United States.
Owned by veteran restauranteurs Antoine Blech and Anshu Vidyarthi have joined forces to bring Le Penguin to Greenwich. Antoine’s illustrious career has taken him from Spago and L’Orangerie in Los Angeles, and Le Bec Fin in Philadelphia to Le Bilboquet, Le Comptoir, Le Colonial, and Orienta in New York. He also co-owned Opia in Manhattan. Additionally, Antoine is an accomplished musician and singer (Check out his soon to be released fourth album at www.frenchcrooner.com).
Anshu has lived every aspect of the restaurant industry since the age of 16, bringing more than 20 years of restaurant and customer service knowledge to the table, having worked at famed Los Angeles establishments such as ‘The Ivy at the Shore’, Brentwood Bar & Grill and The Olive, he was instrumental in the opening and success of NYC landmark Le Colonial. Beginning in 2003, Anshu became well known in Fairfield County as the Director of Operations of L’Escale restaurant bar, another Fred Bollaci Enterprises Preferred Destination at The Delamar Greenwich Harbor. An avid tennis player, Anshu Vidyarthi keeps active by competing in various leagues around Fairfield County, and understands the need to offer healthy and light dining options to an increasingly aware and health-minded clientele who wants the best but without the pounds or guilt.
On a recent visit, my friend and I enjoyed an amazing Beef Carpaccio with arugula and shaved parmesan for starters, a chopped grilled warm vegetable salad, which was outstanding, Mussels with white wine-herb broth, and the daily special, Pan Seared Halibut over mixed vegetables, which was fantastic!
See you in Greenwich and please tell Antoine and Anshu that Fred Bollaci sent you!
