Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant and Pub is a favorite among locals and has been since the 1980’s when Ed Chiles (The Chiles Restaurant Group) purchased and restored the historic waterfront home and created a top spot for fresh, local seafood, dock and dine with al fresco tables overlooking Sarasota Bay, in a casual, old Florida atmosphere. Locals love the Grouper Sandwich and raw bar offerings, as well as the more sophisticated creations of Chef George Quattromani. Mar Vista has been awarded the Fred Bollaci Enterprises Golden Palate Certificate of Excellence! When on beautiful north Longboat Key near Sarasota, be sure to check them out, and even come by boat! Also don’t miss sister restaurants on Anna Maria Island, the Sandbar and the Beachhouse, both Preferred Destinations directly on the Gulf of Mexico!
Whole yellowtail snapper, oven roasted with fresh cut lemon, a twin sauce combo of pesto and chard heirloom tomato, accompanied by savory wilted arugula and house rice pilaf.

Dock and Dine at Marker 39!
Pasta with Guanciale and Shaved Bottarga
2 ounces guanciale (Italian cured hog jowl, or substitute with bacon)
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons Bottarga caviar (locally grown)
¼ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
Dash of red pepper flakes
Package of capellini pasta
Slice guanciale and sauté it in olive oil until it is crisp around the edges. Reserve rendered quanciale and save the oil. Boil Cappellini until al dente. Toss hot pasta out of the pot, leave a bit of pasta water in the bowl, and add the reserved oil and another dash of olive oil, along with a dash of red pepper flakes. Add bottarga and Parmesan cheese, and toss. Sprinkle a little bottarga and crunchy fresh breadcrumbs on top, and serve.
A great local source for Bottarga is Gulf Coast Caviar and Bottarga, owned by my friends the Kirby’s of Simon’s Coffee House in Sarasota.
