As at the renowned Kitchen A Bistro, Orto strives to source the finest and freshest ingredients available on the American market. Chef utilizes the highest quality, local, and seasonal ingredients and prepare them with Italian sensibility. The food is rustic and soul satisfying. Orto was established in 2012, drawing on the success of its to St. James sibling, and offers a similarly inviting atmosphere, and reasonable prices. Orto has a full bar serving wine, beer and mixed drinks, and guests may bring their own wine with no corkage fee! As in St. James, the restaurant accepts cash or check only. Orto is a great spot for a fantastic, fun, affordable night out!
A recent menu featured: Fresh Ricotta, Tomato Tapenade, and Marinated Olives as accompaniments to the fresh bread. Entrees included: Braised Beef Short Ribs, Eggplant Parmigiana, Red Wine Braised Oxtails with Barley Risotto, Braised Pork Braciola, Veal Chop Parmigiano, Salmon with Baby Chickpeas and Eggplant Puree, Roasted Chicken with Zucchini, Panelle, And Aioli, Roasted Quail with Wild Rice and Peach Agrodolce, Lasagna Bolognese, and Striped bass with Lentils and Bacon Jus- excellent selection sure to satisfy everyone!
Pastas, available as half portions included: Torchio Pasta with Heirloom Beans and Baby Clams, Shrimp and Andouille Sausage over Creamy Polenta, Ricotta Gnocchi with Braised Chicken, Fusilli with Zucchini and Burrata, Sweet Corn Ravioli, Pappardelle Bolognese, and Bucatini with Pork Ragu.
Specials on a recent evening included: Baby Greens with Pecorino Dressing, Saffron Tomato Soup with Seafood and Grains, Farro Salad with Heirloom Tomato Salad with Black olives, Carta da Musica, and Buratta, Porchetta in Tonato, Fennel Salad with Mushroom and Shaved Parmesan, Chicken Wings with Chili Agrodolce, Risotto Balls Stuffed with Bolognese, Meatballs Braised in Tomato, Beets with Ricotta Salata and Pistachio Pesto, Frito Misto di Mare, and Baked Little Neck Clams Oreganato.
Featured Desserts included: Chocolate Almond Cake, Warm Donuts with Chocolate Sauce, Gelato or Sorbet, Cheese Cake, Orange Olive Oil Cake, and my personal favorite way to serve coffee- in a French Press!
