Since discovering the Turtle Club last year when visiting my cousin Pete and his family in Naples, I have made a point to stop in any chance I got whether in town to visit friends, family, or clients, or even while driving across Alligator Alley from one coast of Florida to the other.  The moment I saw the place, I knew it would be a favorite.  The restaurant opens up directly onto the white sand beach and overlooks the Gulf of Mexico, perfect for enjoying a cocktail and witnessing an unforgettable sunset.  Dine on the patio or directly on the beach with the sand in between your toes!  Turtle Club is casual, yet sophisticated, offering world-class cuisine, excellent seafood, and some of the most beautiful salad presentations I have ever seen.  The service is friendly and knowledgeable, the staff totally aims to please. The restaurant’s website sums it up well: “Casual elegance is re-defined as you relax at an outdoor table and slip your shoes off to feel the sand between your toes and watch the sun set over the horizon at the end of the day. Our comfortable indoor dining room is reminiscent of a close friend’s beach house. We are committed to providing you with life’s simple but forgotten pleasures – beautiful views, excellent service, outstanding wines, and delicious food. As you gaze out into the Gulf of Mexico and listen to the hushed voices and tinkling of glasses, your concerns will simply fade away. This is where you belong.”

Turtle Club is known for fresh locally sourced seafood from the Gulf of Mexico, or flown in from the best sources anywhere, such as Loch Duart Salmon from Scotland. Turtle Club features quality beef sourced from Sterling Silver and “Brant Family Farms” all natural beef. The right seasoning and time on our special oak fired grill make these steaks memorable. Turtle Club’s philosophy is simple, and it is a winner: “Our caring approach to food and our sincere passion to serve combine to deliver what we call ‘gracious hospitality’.”

Turtle Club features an approachable wine list with something for everyone. Their wine philosophy is “So many wines, so little time . . .let the toasting begin!!” The restaurant has received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.

Turtle Club is ideal for lunch with many wonderful lighter choices, including grilled shrimp salad with melted brie atop mixed greens with fresh fruit, and seared salmon topped with toasted almonds atop mixed greens with fresh seasonal berries and fruit (I have developed recipes for these two dishes at home that were inspired by a recent lunch I enjoyed here, they are posted on my site).

When Peter Tierney and Michael Moore opened the Turtle Club in 1999 on the grounds of the Vanderbilt Beach Resort, they completely changed the landscape of waterfront dining in Naples.

Focusing on fresh seafood and fine steaks and chops served in a spectacular beachfront setting, the restaurant quickly became a favorite “secret spot” for locals.

The secret has been out for some time now, and I am glad to be “in on it.” The restaurant has consistently been voted the Naples area’s top restaurant for waterfront dining. With a focus on casually elegant fine dining, hospitable and caring staff, outstanding food and wine, and excellent value, the Turtle Club continues to win rave reviews from both loyal locals and out-of-state newcomers.

If you happen to be in the Naples area, or are looking for a lovely getaway from the everyday, even if only for an hour or two, be sure to drop in, take your shoes off, and savor the Gulf breezes, some great food, wine, friendly service, and take a stroll along the beach afterwards!  It doesn’t get much better.
