Rumba, Hampton Bays’ preferred destination for fun, family-friendly waterfront Caribbean cuisine, fresh seafood, and great cocktails is a Fred Bollaci Enterprises Preferred Destination.
The “spirit” of Rumba came to life as the passionate work of owners Rachel and David Hersh. They took their love of great food and combined it with the feeling of an island getaway with the goal of creating “a place where everyone who visits is transported to a sun warmed island where there’s soft sand under your feet and a cool breeze blowing through your hair while enjoying a tasty meal and fun drinks.”
Rachel, an Eastern Long Island Native, met David in South Florida. From there they moved to various states around the U.S. before settling down for a while in New Orleans. There they lived for several years before they had the idea of selling it all and moving to the islands. They started traveling to the Caribbean in search of an island they could live “the good life”.
During their travels, they had their son named Jude Ayden. With the arrival of Jude they decided that there was only one island that would be best to settle down in and raise their family, Long Island.
Back on Long Island, they found a beautiful restaurant location on the water that reminded them of a time when they were sharing rum punches in the Caribbean. That became the origin of “Rumba, Inspired Island Cuisine and Rum Bar.”
Rumba is a great place to forget our worries for a little while, eat some great food, sip some rum and have some laughs, a Hampton’s local favorite overlooking beautiful Shinnecock Bay! The Seared Tuna Salad was excellent- the local tuna perfectly seared rare and melt-in-your-mouth fresh! The menu features excellent seafood, Caribbean specialties, as well as great burgers, salads, and more! Rumba features live music on Thursday evenings and happy hour 3-5pm Monday-Friday. In addition to many amazing rum cocktails, there is an approachable wine list with some great local selections from the Twin Forks of Long Island.
