One of Fred and his family’s Long Island favorites growing up, anytime Fred visits his hometown of Glen Cove, La Ginestra is a must. Growing up half Sicilian-American, Fred was accustomed to the finest Southern Italian cuisine in the homes of his grandparents and many family members, who were excellent cooks. As is typical in an Italian immigrant family, many of the older, more traditional family members preferred cooking and dining at home, as opposed to in restaurants. One of the places my family could always count on enjoying and feeling as though they were home with family is La Ginestra. Featuring the freshest, homestyle Sicilian-inspired cuisine with simply grilled seafood, chops, and vegetables (the Grilled Calamari and mixed grill antipasto with vegetables, portobello mushrooms, and warm house-made mozzarella is a phenomenal, and light platter to share. The curly pasta “alla Norma” with sautéed eggplant, tomato, and ricotta salata is a favorite, as are La Ginestra’s famed veal chops, which are large enough to share. The desserts (save room) are all homemade, including one of the best Napoleons anywhere. You will want to do extra cardio for a taste! Consistently excellent food and service for 25 years say it all!
