As I mentioned in my recent column in VENU Magazine all about the top Golden Palate® dining destinations in Florida, if you are going to have one cocktail in Sarasota, have the Bramble at State Street–if you haven’t yet, do it! You will thank me! Fortunately, you can also make one at home! Dick Bradsell crafted the original Bramble–a blackberries-and-gin drink in the mid-1980s at Fred’s Club in Soho, London, England. No wonder this “Fred” likes it so much 🙂
“The Bramble” by State Street Eating House + Cocktails
Ingredients:
3 blackberries
2 ounces Plymouth Gin
1 ounce fresh lemon juice
½ ounce heavy simple syrup (2 parts sugar, 1 part water)
Crème de Mure Liqueur (or substitute another Blackberry liqueur, based upon availability, such as Creme de Cassis)
Crushed ice
Mixology:
Muddle blackberries in a rocks glass and set aside. In a shaker with ice, add the gin, lemon juice and simple syrup, and shake. In the glass with the blackberries, add crushed ice. Strain the liquid mixture over crushed ice and add blackberries. Cover with more crushed ice (it should look like a snow cone). Top with Crème de Mure and garnish with a fresh blackberry.
