Recipe: Shrimp Piri Piri, a Specialty from Mozambique by J.P. Knaggs (The Bijou Cafe) in Sarasota!

 

Shrimp Piri Piri, a signature dish of The Bijou Cafe’ with origins in Mozambique! Recipe courtesy of J.P. Knaggs.

Ingredients:
• 1 pound shrimp, peeled, deveined with tail on; pat dry
• 1/2 cup white wine
• splash of lemon juice
• 2 tablespoons softened butter

For marinade:
• 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
• 1 tablespoon paprika
• 1 tablespoon minced garlic
• 1 tablespoon olive oil
Toss all together and marinate 4 to 5 hours.

Instructions:
In an extremely hot pan, salt and sear the shrimp. Flip them over and add marinade, white wine and lemon juice. Reduce sauce and swirl in soft butter.

NOTE: Bijou is now (2022) the “Bijou Garden Cafe” purchased by developer Sharon Carole with Chef Christopher Covelli at the helm. The shrimp dish makes an appearance from time-to-time on the menu.
